Welcome
Welcome to Andy's Angle
This site is dedicated to the world of match (and specimen) angling in a totally unbiased & honest manner.

My name is Andy Pell, 2007 winner of the White Acres Daiwa Festival, and my world is match fishing.

Along with my colleague in the site, Darren Wilson ,we hope to bring you the very best in unbiased product reviews, match style "blogs", angling myth busting and much more

The following pages contain all kinds of information on all aspects of our sport.
My match diary will allow you to follow my exploits as I attempt to bag up on all kinds of venues and take home the brown envelopes. Along with my travelling partner Mick 'Bully100' Wheeler, you can follow our exploits as we travel far and wide in search of match wins.

I am the manager of the Chiltern Bait match group, so you can follow the exploits of the team through the Angling Times Winter League and other competitions we enter.

Darren is a former member of the Dick Clegg Mark One Sensas team and has fished at the highest level , barring international duty, in both match & specimen angling. He is regularly contacted by some of the biggest names in the world of angling and independent manufacturers for product advice & his thoughts on new and existing items.

Darren's technical knowledge of fishing tackle & baits is second to none (as well as most things connected to I.T.) due to the mixture of scientific and lateral thinking that constantly goes on in his messed up brain!!!! A lot of people comment that Darren should be snapped up by a manufacturer as a product consultant. Maybe that will happen soon, although we seriously doubt it due to Darren's way of telling things how they should be rather than what the manufacturers or sponsored anglers would lead us to believe.

Both Darren & myself are very good friends with some of the country's top match (and specimen) anglers, so we will be trying to prise some top tips, articles and other advice from them for you to follow.

One thing we will be priding ourselves on upon the site is offering totally & utterly unbiased reviews & previews on tackle, baits & anything else to do with angling. If we review an item, you can be guaranteed that it will exactly as we find it with nothing held back.

We have all bought items of equipment in the past going on the strength of a magazine review. You will never find a bad review in a magazine funnily enough, and as anglers ourselves who only want the very best for our money, we would like to pass on the information as we find it to our members.

Darren Wilson and a TenchKeep an eye on the "Gallery" page as you may pop up there sometime. Please feel free to submit photos for the gallery.

If you would like to write articles or a totally honest product review for the site, you can do so by clicking the link on the left hand side of the page. Don't worry about the formatting of the text etc, we will do that for you (even correct spelling mistakes!). Photos of the product can be sent to us via email or we can put pictures from our own stock library in for you.

Most match anglers aspire to improve and be among the best in the country and we are no different. Follow our journeys to the top, or not as the case maybe, through this site.

Guest's can only view part of the site but registration is easy and best of all TOTALLY FREE. Sign up today (if you do not receive an activation email within 1 hour, please inform Darren and he will manually activate the account for you). This mainly pertains to Hotmail & AOL email accounts as they seem to have our domain blacklisted!

Tight lines and hope to bump into you on the bank!!!

Kamasan Starlets sign Welsh Champion
NewsKamasan Starlets have added another top class angler to their squad.

Current Individual World Champion bronze medalist and River Wye record holder Lee Edwards joins the team to start their summer campaign.

Drennan Team England manager and Starlets boss Mark Downes commented on the signing: -

‘I have been fortunate to be able to watch Lee at international level for a number of years and in last years World Champs in Hungary he was outstanding. He is a World class angler with great all-round talent and will be a great asset to our squad”.

Kamasan Starlets are current reigning Angling Times Winter league Champions and will be focusing on the Drennan Super League final in the coming months.

Garbolino Exclusive Sneak Preview!!!!
MembersTo be unveiled for the first time at the Total Coarse Fishing Show ( I will be there Saturday & Sunday so come say hello if you are around ), will be Garbolino’s awesome Super G Power pole.

Designed on Super G mandrels to compliment the hugely successful match poles the Super G Power has that little bit extra in reserve when you need it.
Similar in characteristics to the G Force Power but Garbolino have managed to make it even stiffer and lighter through precise materials control and carbon mixtures. This makes it even better to handle at all lengths; lighter, stiffer and more responsive!
Designed to comfortably fish with elastics to size 20 with the power kits or to size 14 with the standard kits which make the poles balance feel superb. There are two short 4 sections that come with the pole which stiffen and strengthen the pole even further when required. These sections are ideal when fishing in windy conditions and they make it easy to ‘power play’ big fish to the net. The qualities of this pole speak for themselves when handled: -
- Ultra smooth finish for easy shipping.
- Strong section hoop strength.
- Reinforced joints on all sections.
- Great package to suit the UK commercial angler.
UK General Manager and top match angler Darren Cox commented: -
“The Super G Power is further proof that our engineers have found an exceptional formula of carbons which work extremely well on our G Series mandrel profile. It is a lovely pole to use and will be extremely popular in the UK”
The Super G Power is totally interchangeable with all G series poles giving all the pole permutations you will ever need in two poles.

Superb pack details: -
14.5m Pole (including standard top 3 kit in the pole)
3 x Power Top 2 kits
1 x Super Power Top kit
1 x Extendable Cupping Kit
2 x Short 4 Power sections
Complete in a deluxe Garbolino holdall.

All this for only ₤799.99

Available from May from all Garbolino stockists.

I have known about this pole for some time but had promised to keep it under wraps until I was told I could let you know about it.
Looking forward to getting my hands on this pole and putting it through it's paces.

SQL Connection Errors
NetworkAs some of you may have noticed, the site is sometimes unaccessible and gives an error message stating that 'connection cannot be made'.

This is unfortunately beyond our control due to SQL Server reboots at the datacentre hosting the site.

I have raised this as a priority support issue with 34SP (the hosts) and they are working on a resolution.

Hopefully they will resolve the problem rapidly, & ask that you bear with us at this time.

Darren

Addition - 07/03/08

I have spoken to the hosts today and they think they have resolved the problem with the SQL servers rebooting themselves. If you get any 2002 connection errors, please let me know ASAP by email or PM once you can get back on the site (please include time & date of outage so I can kick their backsides into gear).

Addition - 02/04/08

Another update on the situation. It seems that the hosts are still having problems, and they have now been told that if they do not get a reliable service up and running soon, I will be moving all the sites I have hosted with them to another host (over 40 sites at time of writing).
Apologies for any times that you cannot get to the site, but it is out of our hands here. At least it is not down more than it is up like some of the other sites ;o)

Addition - 30/04/08

After the issue rearing it's head again in the last couple of days, I have been on to the hosts again regarding the issue, and it seems that the site is too busy for the server to handle!!!!!!! I have spoken to the hosts regarding options, and I do need to put these to Andy first before making any decisions. There may be some downtime depending on which option is chosen, but we will let you know in advance of when these are expected.
Again we apologise for this, and at the same time, thank you guys for making it so popular and busy!!!!

February's Competition Winners
MembersMarch has arrived (this year is going too bloody quick), & it is time to announce the winner of February's competition in conjunction with Fishing Republic.

The winner of the Theseus Match Rubber Keepnet & Landing Net set is.......

KEVIN FOLWELL

Congratulations Kevin, and your details have been forwarded on to Kirsty at Fishing Republic to send the prize to.

Thanks go out to Kirsty & Fishing Republic for their continued support and we hope to continue running the competition.

The Braham & Murray competition has also ended. Number of entries was very dissapointing if I am to be honest, as I felt that everyone would have had something to say about the items of tackle they use or don't use for various reasons, but that is life.

The winners have been picked and if they could email or PM me with their full contact details, I will arrange for their prizes to be sent out.

Getinback (Andy Bench)
Kevin Folwell
wightangler (Adrian Nicholas)
rob172cup (Robert Medd)
mshaw (Mike Shaw)

Mike's submission is outstanding and it will be run as an actual article rather than a review once we have gone through the formatting of it etc. This is the reason why it is not yet visible.

Well done chaps and the quicker you can forward me the details, the quicker you will get your Hemp prizes. If you could be so kind to review the Hemp prizes as well in the same manner when you have had chance to use them, it would be appreciated by myself & Andy, and Braham & Murray.

Andy & myself would like to thank Ray Best for organising this competition with Braham & Murray.

Keep an eye out for new competitions in the very near future.

January's Competition Winner
MembersFebruary has arrived (this year is going too quick), & it is time to announce the winner of January's competition in conjunction with Fishing Republic.

The winner of the Theseus Match Pole Roller & Roost set is.......

ANDY BENCH (Getinback)

Well done Andy, and your details have been forwarded on to Kirsty at Fishing Republic to send the prize to.

Thanks go out to Kirsty & Fishing Republic for their support and we hope to continue running the competition.

Don't forget that the Braham & Murray sponsored competition is still running with weekly prizes for the best review written by the members each week. Only had ONE entry so far, so that member is guarenteed a prize for that week. Full details can be found in the Competitions Forum. Without entrants to the competitions, the sponsors may not continue with their support of the site, and it would be a shame to see the members not getting any benefits out of the deal.

New Site Sponsor
MembersAndy's Angle would like to welcome our latest sponsor to the site in the way of Braham & Murray.

For those that are not aware of Braham & Murray, they are the UK's largest growers of Hemp and purely sell Hemp products.

I will be putting up more information regarding the company and their products in the coming days, and I would like to express our appreciation in their support (and to Ray Best, the trade agent for B&M) from both Andy and myself.

Write a product review & potentially win a prize!!!!! Go to the Competitions forum for more information on the competition that will see at least 4 members each month recieve a comprehensive Hemp based package delivered direct to their door. There may even be from time to time, other manufacturers products included in the deal as well, but these will kept a surprise (and could be of high value even!).

This type of competition has proved to be worthy in the past on sites I was running 10 years ago in conjunction with a major tackle shop based in Bedfordshire.

If you don't enter, all the product will go to Andy & myself instead, so what have you got to lose? LOL
